Arcade machine repair and restoration

An arcade cabinet is three different repairs in one box: woodwork, monitor and board. I do all three, which is why this job is measured in weeks rather than days.

The CRT is the part most workshops decline, and with reason — the voltages inside do not forgive. It is also the part that makes the cabinet what it is: pixels on an original CRT look the way they were drawn. So I repair it rather than dropping in an LCD, unless the owner specifically asks.

Boards from that era are repairable down to the last chip. Diagnostics goes through the power section, then memory, then logic. When a chip is no longer made I look for a donor — better that than the cabinet staying in the basement.

What it covers

  • Cabinet restoration — wood, vinyl, side art
  • CRT monitor repair: chopper, degaussing, geometry setup
  • PCB diagnostics and repair down to component level
  • Joystick, button and microswitch replacement
  • Coin mechanism and token handling repair
  • New wiring loom and power supply replacement

What usually comes in

  • Picture is shrunk, skewed, or fades after a few minutes
  • The cabinet powers up but the screen stays black
  • Buttons stick or miss presses
  • Sound crackles or is missing entirely
  • The cabinet is intact but nothing inside works
